Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a water-soluble vitamin found in a variety of fruits and vegetables that is easily destroyed when exposed to air, heat and light.

Functions: Essential for growth and maintenance of all cells and tissues; promotes the absorption of iron in the intestines; and acts as a water-soluble antioxidant in the body.

Sources: Many fruits and vegetables, including citrus fruits, cantaloupe, strawberries, tomatoes, green and red peppers, kale, collards, mustard greens, broccoli, cabbage, and potatoes.

Deficiency: Signs of deficiency include delayed wound healing; increased susceptibility to infection; and scurvy, a condition characterized by bleeding under the skin, anemia, joint tenderness and swelling, poor wound healing, weakness, and such oral disorders as bleeding gums, tooth loss, and gingivitis.

However, because vitamin C sources are plentiful in the U.S. food supply, deficiency is rarely seen; it mainly occurs n infants fed cow’s milk only, or in people whose diets lack adequate sources of vitamin C. In addition, cigarette smokers have lower blood levels of vitamin C than nonsmokers. As a consequence, the National Research Council recommends that smokers consume at least 100 milligrams of vitamin C per day.

Excess: High intakes of 1 gram or more per day may cause nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea in some people.

Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin not recognized as an essential nutrient until the 1960s, about 40 years after its discovery.

Function: Prevents potentially harmful oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the body, which would lead to cell damage; important in protecting red blood cell membranes from oxidation.

Deficiency: Vitamin E deficiency can cause anemia, as a result of red blood cell destruction, and nerve damage. However, deficiency is rare and mainly occurs in premature, very low-birth-weight infants and people with fat absorption disorders, such as cystic fibrosis.

Excess: Some evidence suggests that large intakes may cause increased levels of blood cholesterol and lipids.

U.S. Recommended Daily Allowances

Infants (0-12 mo.) – 5IU*
Children (1-3 years) – 10IU
Adults and Children 4 Years+ – 30IU
Pregnant or Nursing Women – 30IU

*IU= International Units

(The U.S. RDA amounts are sufficient to meet the needs of practically all healthy people.)

Vitamin A (retinoid) is a fat-soluble vitamin found mainly in animal foods in the vitamin form and in plant foods primarily as carotenes, substances that are formed into vitamin A chiefly in the small intestine.

Function: Essential for growth and for keeping skin and other tissues healthy; helps eyes to adapt to dim light and perceive colors; essential for normal tooth development.

Sources: Beef, chicken and pork livers; whole and vitamin A-fortified milk; cheddar cheese; butter; margarine; egg yolk; deep green, yellow or orange vegetables and fruits (including carrots, spinach, collards, broccoli, kale, nectarines, apricots, mangoes, cantaloupe, pumpkins, winter squash, turnip greens, sweet potatoes, and watermelon).

Deficiency: Vitamin A deficiency is rare in the United States; it mainly occurs among some people in developing countries. Some signs include skin changes, stunted growth, night blindness, and serious eye problems (such as drying, thickening, wrinkling, and muddy pigmentation of the mucous membrane lining the eyelid and eyeball, which eventually can destroy the eye). Inadequate intakes of foods containing vitamin A have been associated with some types of cancer, but the effect, if any, appears related to lack of carotene.

Excess: Because vitamin A is fat soluble, it is stored in the body. As a result, continued high doses (several times the U.S. RDA) have toxic effects. Signs of toxicity include dry and itching skin, headaches, and nausea and diarrhea. High vitamin A intake during pregnancy also may cause birth defects, but it is not known at what level this can occur. Excessive amounts of carotene are not known to be toxic, but will cause the skin to turn deep yellow. The color disappears when the amount of carotene in the diet is decreased.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is an anti-oxidants but unlike other anti-oxidants it is soluble in either fat or water. Alpha Lipoic Acid is naturally made in our body but can also be found in small amounts in some foods such as spinach and brocolli.

Alpha Lipoic Acid can lessen your blood sugar levels and kill the free radicals. In the end, there is easing of numbness, pain, tingling, burning as well as itching during nerve damages as part of the detrimental results of diabetes. This is known as the peripheral neuropathy. Certainly this ingredient will help reduce symptoms. Additionally, there are medical studies that shown taking Alpha Lipoic Acid to be a good aid on another diabetes-related condition, the autonomic neuropathy (concern nerves at the heart.)

Other vitamins and minerals beneficial:
1. Vitamin C – can neutralize free radicals with antioxidants
2. Vitamin E – can boost the antioxidants to work against specific free radicals that lead to eye damage, kidney damage and heart disease.
3. Chromium – can advance your lipid and blood glucose levels, which is opposite to rumors of it being a weight loss ingredient.

Life is good. Don’t let your efforts be put to waste! Upon getting diabetes, immediately consult a doctor. Being a “set” of related diseases, it can put an end to your healthy lifestyle.

Now, more drugs are made in order to regulate the amount of glucose or sugar in the blood. This is the right choice. Since, glucose is vital to garner bodily energy.

How else are you going maintain a healthy living?

Make no mistake about it; find the right aids on nutritional support for diabetes in one supplement!

There’s too much of news already about the radiation leaked in Japan after the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe. In fact, there’s been a sudden need of Iodine which according to a lot experts will helps in protecting if you’re exposed on a nuclear radiation.

Why Do You Need IODINE to Protect against Radiation?

Dr. Brownstein one of the top experts on iodine explains about radiation exposure: “If there is enough inorganic, non-radioactive iodine in our bodies, the radioactive fallout has nowhere to bind in our bodies. It will pass through us, leaving our bodies unharmed. It is important to ensure that we have adequate iodine levels BEFORE this fallout hits.”

You need iodine to make the thyroid hormones that regulate your body’s metabolism. In fact, that’s all iodine does for you, but it’s a lot: Those thyroid hormones play a big role in your growth, cell reproduction, nerve functions, and how your cells use oxygen.

Dr. Brownstein explains that you must get iodine in your body BEFORE being exposed to radiation. Unfortunately, iodine deficiency was a serious problem. He further explained that “Humans tolerate large doses of iodine so the very high dosages recommended for protection for radioactive iodine are not usually a problem except for those who already have serious problems with their thyroids, which is quite a lot of people considering how many are deficient in this vital nutrient.”

Standard Dose For Potassium Iodide During Radiation Emergencies:

For Potassium Iodide (also called KI) is a salt of stable (not radioactive) iodine.

Since there’s no there will be little or no time to consult doctors and other health care practitioners to get the proper dosage. The standard dose for potassium iodide during radiation emergencies:

For infants, babies and children, KI is administered for exposure of 5 centigrays (cGy) or more.

For birth through 1 month, 16 mg can be administered;

For 1 month through 3 years, 32 mg can be administered;

For 3-12 years, 65 mg can be administered;

For adolescents ages 12-18 years, 65 mg can be administered (or up to 120 mg if the adolescent is approaching adult size).

2. For Nascent iodine, though more expensive, actually tastes and feels good while going down and is gentle enough to give to children, who do not seem to complain about its taste.

The recommendation would be to use in high dosages to both saturate the thyroid (which makes it less vulnerable to chemical and radioactive attack) while it will also knock out any contaminants already absorbed. One hundred drops a day is a strong dose, but when treating life threatening diseases it would not be unheard of to use upward of 200 drops a day in divided doses, but if you get your iodine on the day the news is sounding the radiation alarm I would jump right to 100 drops or 50 drops in divided dosages for children.

Side Effects of OneTime High Pulse Dosage of Potassium Iodine

These onetime high pulse dosages of potassium iodine are necessary during an emergency but they do not come without some risk of side effects, which include:

severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue),

black, tarry stools,

confusion,

fever,

irregular heartbeat,

metallic taste in the mouth,

mouth sores,

numbness or tingling of the hands or feet,

skin rash,

stomach pains,

swelling in the neck or throat,

unusual tiredness,

weakness.

When faced with a radioactive cloud it is absolutely imperative that you take iodine, whatever iodine you can get your hands on. If the only iodine available is topical iodine that is not suitable for oral use then you should paint your body and your children’s bodies with it.

But what exactly is an Enzymes and Hormones?

Enzymes are chemical compounds your body makes from various combinations of proteins, vitamins and minerals. Enzymes speed up chemical reactions in your body.

Hormones are chemical messengers your body makes to tell your organs what to do. Hormones regulate many activities including your growth, blood pressure, heart rate, glucose levels, and sexual characteristics.

It is the responsibility of the vitamins and minerals to produce thousands of enzymes and hormones to keep your body working.
