Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin not recognized as an essential nutrient until the 1960s, about 40 years after its discovery.

Function: Prevents potentially harmful oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the body, which would lead to cell damage; important in protecting red blood cell membranes from oxidation.

Deficiency: Vitamin E deficiency can cause anemia, as a result of red blood cell destruction, and nerve damage. However, deficiency is rare and mainly occurs in premature, very low-birth-weight infants and people with fat absorption disorders, such as cystic fibrosis.

Excess: Some evidence suggests that large intakes may cause increased levels of blood cholesterol and lipids.

Adults and Children 4 Years+ – 30IU

Hidden Danger of Over-Medication

Many people have gotten used to the idea of taking a pill every time they are in pain or even feel moderately uncomfortable. There is something available over-the-counter for everything from headaches to the common cold, but in the end these medicines could be doing your body much more harm than good. Many common over-the-counter medications can be dangerous if taken to excess, or even if taken regularly over a long period of time.

Acetaminophen is the painkiller of choice for Americans, but overdoses of this medicine is one of the most common causes of poisoning in the world. Because it’s found in so many different kinds of over-the-counter products, from cold medicine to fever-reducing painkillers, it is easy for the consumer to use far more acetaminophen than they realize. Unless treated immediately, overdose can result in liver failure and death. Regular use of acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen may even lead to hearing loss.

Ibuprofen is another popular painkiller, but it is no less dangerous. Women who take a great deal of ibuprofen increase their risk of high blood pressure by as much as 78 percent. It also increases the risk of peptic ulcers. An overdose can cause loss of consciousness and seizures. Excessive use can cause serious gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding without warning symptoms.

Aspirin is a useful blood thinner for people at great risk for heart attacks, but when healthy people take it daily “just in case,” it almost doubles their risk of being hospitalized for internal bleeding. It also increases the risk for ulcers, and increases the incidence of bleeding for those who have already had bleeding ulcers.

Dextromethorphan (DXM) is a cough suppressant that is widely known for its side effects. It has shown up in the media and is an issue for concerned parents, because many people take it recreationally for its euphoric and hallucinogenic effects. DXM is a common ingredient in many over-the-counter cold medicines, so it wouldn’t be difficult to accidentally take more than the recommended dose when combining drugs.

Prescription drugs are an even greater danger. Statistical analysis of fatalities among hospitalized patients in the United States during 1994 revealed that 76,000–137,000 deaths could be attributed to adverse drug reactions.According to this study, even if the number were 76,000 deaths, adverse drugs reactions would have ranked as the sixth leading cause of death among inpatients that year—behind cardiovascular disease, cancer, stroke, pulmonary disease, and accidental trauma.This analysis would not have included fatalities resulting from adverse drug reactions occurring outside the hospital setting, so it may have underestimated the number of deaths attributable to adverse drug reactions in that year.

Florida Woman Living Life She Never Dreamt Possible – USANA Success Stories

For many years, Lynn Allen-Johnson worked in a design showroom, helping architects and interior designers select marble and granite for their wealthy customers. Lynn enjoyed the job, but she certainly never thought she would have the opportunity to select such materials for herself. “Most of my adult life I lived in mediocrity or poverty,” she explains. “I was living in an apartment and getting by just paycheck to paycheck.”

That all changed in 2002, when Lynn decided to take her then oft-ignored USANA business and transform it into a highly profitable organization. Less than five years later, Lynn was not only out of her apartment, she was picking out marble and granite for her own custom-built dream home. “My house is back-to-back with my daughter’s home in a great neighborhood,” she says happily. “We have a beautiful patio with a hot tub and pool, and I have a totally private, 650-square foot office and training room where I can work.”

Lynn admits that it’s all just a little hard to believe. “I’m living a life that I never dreamed possible,” she says. “My husband, Phil, and I have built our wonderful home, I’m a published author, and I have the freedom of time to do what I want to do.” She chooses to spend much of that time with her family, especially her six grandchildren. “I love going to their little league games,” she says. “We get to sit on the bleachers, eat our peanuts, and cheer them on! I’m so happy to be there and be a part of their lives.”

Lynn also appreciates the extra time she has to spend with her mother, who lives about 70 miles away. “Every two weeks or so she comes and spends several days with us,” Lynn explains. “And often I drive down to see her and we have a ‘girls’ day’ together. I didn’t have much time to spend with her before USANA, so it means a lot to me now.”

Although Lynn admits to being a homebody, she is grateful to have the resources to travel when she chooses to. Lynn and Phil recently returned from a weeklong vacation in Las Vegas with Lynn’s daughter and son-in law, brother and sister-in-law, and mother. “We just went to some shows, enjoyed spending time together, and didn’t worry about a thing. It was wonderful!” she says.

Lynn speaks with the contentment of someone who is living her best life. She recently celebrated her birthday and was delighted to realize that she couldn’t think of a single thing she wished for. “I don’t have the hugest house on the planet or the fanciest car,” she says. “But I can honestly say that I have everything I could ever want.“

Having achieved her personal goals, Lynn remains driven by her desire to see her teammates accomplish their own “best lives.” “I want to give back now,” she says. “It isn’t about me anymore. I want to see my teammates experience all of the success and happiness that I have experienced.”
