A team of researchers from the University of Washington report that daily use of multivitamins over a 10-year period may reduce the risk of death from heart disease by 16%.

Researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center at the University of Washington recently analyzed the use of multivitamin supplements, vitamin C, and vitamin E over a ten year period. Correlations between 5-year total mortality and death from cancer or cardiovascular disease (CVD) were assessed.

Data from 77,719 Washington residents aged 50 to 76 were obtained by questionnaire. A series of analyses showed that use of multivitamins was associated with a 16% lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease (95% CI: 0.01-0.3). Intakes of vitamin E over 215 milligrams per day over the course of ten years were also associated with a 28% reduction in the risk of death from CVD (95% CI: 0.12-0.31).

Multivitamin use alone was not associated with a decreased risk of total mortality, but both vitamin C and E were associated with decreases in risk of total mortality. Similarly, vitamin C did not correlate with a reduced risk of death from CVD while both multivitamins and vitamin E did.

Choosing multivitamin is actually quite hard to do because there is so many types of brands to choose from. But, there is actually some easy tips that you could follow when preparing to by supplements.

First of all, try to get a product that contains all important vitamins and minerals that your body needs. By choosing a multivitamin that provide most of the vitamins and minerals, will cut down the number of supplements that you need for your health and it will also save you some money.

The Multivitamins should should contain the following ingredients:

Powerful antioxidants. These come in the form of Vitamins A, C and E. Antioxidants play a major role in cellular health and help to slow down the process of aging. They can help to boost the immune system. Vitamin A is known to support healthy skin, eyes, bones, teeth, hair and a healthy reproductive system.

Selenium and zinc also support immune health.

Niacin, CoQ10, potassium and other minerals help to support cardiovascular health and normal blood pressure.

Zinc and L-Arginine help support sexual health.

Calcium and Magnesium support joint and bone health, as well as heart health.

Vitamin B complex used for boosting energy levels. Folic Acid which is B9 is needed for growth, development and formation of nucleic acids that form DNA. See our previous post Insufficient B Vitamin Is Very Bad For Your Health.

Bioflavonoids and L-Glutamine help to provide immune support

If you follow these instructions, then the need for other kind of supplements will decreased dramatically.

Always seek professional medical advice before taking any multivitamin supplement if there is any doubt as to the benefits of the contents.

Tips!

There is a lot of Internet shop that provide health supplements to customer. Some of them are good and some actually bad.

To be on the safe side, I would recommend you to visit NaturesDrugstore.com

Opinions on the importance of fiber for health and its effects on human metabolism vary widely. Increasingly, however, the facts indicate that Burkitt and Trowell’s fiber hypothesis, according to which the low fiber content in the industrial nations’ nutrition is at the root of many of our diseases, is valid in a number of ways. Preventive as well as curative approaches can be derived from the various effects of fiber. Some of these effects are based on fiber’s physicochemical properties, including high water-binding capacity (swelling action) and an indigestible matrix with a high-level binding ability.

High Fiber Rich Foods

In the stomach, high fiber content leads to delayed emptying. The water-binding enlarges the particles so that they pass the pyloric sphincter later. Also, fiber-rich foods tend to be chewed more extensively. Both facts contribute to a faster and prolonged feeling of satiety.

In the ileum and colon, in particular, strong swelling action of fiber shortens the transit time. Changes in the speed of digestion and absorption may result from the non-specific binding capacity of fibers. Minerals and trace elements, as well as fat soluble substances, may be transported into lower intestinal areas this way and be withheld from absorption.

The binding of steroids leads to increased excretion of bile acids and cholesterol, which may be relevant for the therapy of fat metabolism disorders. Glucose absorption is also delayed by high fiber intake, improving blood glucose profiles in diabetics.

In the colon, several mechanisms contribute to a desirable increase of stool weight , stool volume, and the related softer stool consistency: swelling of non-water-soluble polysaccharides; their energetic use by intestinal bacteria, which increases their mass; formation of gases like methane and CO2, resulting from microbial breakdown of these fibers.

The latter is—subjectively—undesirable, but tends to decrease after an initial adaptive period. The binding of ammonia increases fecal nitrogen excretion, thereby unburdening the liver and kidneys. Short-chain fatty acids (FA) like acetate, butyrate, and propionate, produced during fermentation, positively affect the composition of the intestinal flora, as well as intestinal pH. They are absorbed by the colon mucosa for subsequent energetic use. Therefore, the caloric content of fiber should be assessed as being 2 kcal/g on average.

Fiber has become important for prevention and therapy of many diseases: obstipation, diverticulosis, colon cancer, diabetes mellitus, and disorders of lipid metabolism. Disadvantages like the binding of essential nutrients, changes of the mucosa, and gas formation are mostly negligible relative to the long-term advantages.
